Lighting

When designing a work space, lighting is extremely important to how that space functions, but is often not considered until too late. In a kitchen, laundry or bathroom, where cabinetry, tiles or glass cover the walls, it is particularly important to determine placement of electrical points and light fixtures at the design stage.

To keep cost to a minimum it is common to leave major electrical circuits (eg for ovens) where they are and design around them. If they are to be moved, to achieve a better design, then the cost of doing so needs to be considered along with the design.

There are many new options for lighting available, particularly LED strip-light technology for under cabinet lighting in kitchens, or internal lighting for glass display cabinets or walk-in pantries. It is a good idea to investigate ahead of time what you might like in terms of lighting for your project.
